Pangolin: The Pangolin is sometimes known as the scaly anteater. Various species of Pangolin can be found throughout Africa and Asia, including China. The Pangolin range in size from 12 to 39 inches and a number of extinct types of pangolin are also known. The Pangolin has large scales of protective keratin scales, similar in materials to fingers and toenails. Their diet consists of mainly ants and termites and they live in hollow trees or burrow depending on the species. Pangolins are a nocturnal species and live mainly a solitary life, meeting up only to mate. Their litters are normally one to three offspring, which they raise for about two years. They have become endangered due to poaching for their meat and scales and due to deforestation of their natural habitats. They have also become the most trafficked mammals in the world.

submitted by a resident.. Northeastern Bullrush: This is a rare species of flowering plant in the sedge family. This plant is a native to the northeastern United States from New Hampshire to Virginia, which includes Vermont. This plant use to be found in Quebec and in New York, but is now thought to be entirely extirpated from these areas. It is threatened by the loss and degradation of its wetland habitat and has become a federally listed endangered species. Natural threats to the Northeastern Bullrush include beaver pond pollutions and the trampling and browsing by larger animals such as deer. There are only 113 known populations of this species, with about half of them on the decline.

OK we have our 2 endangered species now. So let's consider this thread locked for new submissions. Feel free to comment on 2 species though. |
